strays of istanbul

as a cat and dog lover, i was kind of shocked when i first saw all the stray animals in istanbul, i never saw so many of them before (not even in thailnand i think). i wish i could give them all a warming and loving home, but to be realistic, that’s impossible ;)
i talked to my turkish friends about it, they told me that they sometimes feed the animals, i am truly thankful for that.

me and the darkroom

in the context of my photography course i had a darkroom workshop a few weeks ago. i was fascinated immediately, so me and some of my course colleagues went to the darkroom one more time… and here’s what came out of it. the film i processed was a black & white lomo film, shot some time in winter with my lomo fisheye. i think some of the pictures turned out quite nice, other ones can be improved for sure.
i’m planning to go back to the darkroom soon (we can use the darkroom of the photography school), but next time i will try to process a diana-medium-format-film :)
as i’m not experienced at all with all the darkroom-work, i would be happy about any kind of feedback here :)

in love with poppies

when in istanbul, i had a little accident with my camera and i cannot use it right now because it is under repair.
my roommate was so kind to lend me her canon-camera for my architecture-photography-homework. on my way to the universtiy (i took photos there for the homework), i stopped at this beautiful little poppy-garden. isn’t it beautiful to see flowers in the middle of a crowded city? those poppies absolutely made my day :)

Dear Friends,

So much has happened in Turkey since I wrote to you last.

As I type my heart is pounding and my fingers are rushing on the keyboard to tell you the news. I am in the midst of emotions. I follow the news on social media and from the personal accounts of my friends who are out there in Istanbul and Ankara diligently and persistently working to have their voices heard by the State and the mass media.

dear people, something different this time, i hope you don’t mind but i would like to share this article from a turkish blogger… it’s great written and shows you what’s really going on there…

istanbul: the blue mosque

as promised, here’s the first part of my istanbul series. one of the buildings i liked most was the blue mosque. i have never visited an islamic country before (except a layover stop in qatar) and i’ve also never seen a mosque from inside. you can imagine how impressed i was :)

flooded austria

before i am going to share my pictures from istanbul with you guys, i would like to show you what’s going on in austria at the moment. since around 4 or 5 days huge parts of the country (mostly along the danube) are flooded with water because there were some heavy rainfalls during the weekend. as far as i’m informed, in the western parts of austira the water levels don’t rise anymore but the situation in the eastern parts of the country is still tense.

the first photo was taken in winter last year at the danube canal in vienna, this is how it usually looks like

donaukanal in winter

and this is how it looked like 45 minutes ago

danube canaltwo days ago i was in lower austira, the situation there (and also in upper austira) is much worse than in vienna, some places couldn’t be reached anymore and a lot of people were rescued by helicopters. also the houses of many people are damaged really badly… let’s hope the situation will calm down very soon.

protests in turkey

dear people,

as you may know, i was in istanbul for the last few days. i arrived last week on thursday and stayed until monday; i hope you’re informed that on friday some serious protest started in istanbul, the police was (and still is) extremely violent towards the protestors, on friday and on sunday we could smell  tear gas all over the city, i almost couldn’t believe it. it all started because the government wants to build a shopping mall in one of the few remaining parks in istanbul, but  the protests grew rapidly and now they are against the “dictator” erdogan and his political party.
worst of all, the turkish media are not reporting about what’s going on in the whole country and also the “occupy turkey”-page on facebook disappeared two days ago. nevertheless the people there stick togehter, everyone cares about the injured persons and it’s not only the young people who are protesting.

those are the pictures i took; we saw more protestors in the evenings, but unfortunately i left the camera at home… i’m sorry for the bad quality but i took those when i was sitting in a taxi.

i don’t know if you can see it but there are thousands of people on the bridge walking towards the city center

on sunday evening there was an appeal on facebook to be loud at 9 p.m., that meant all the people who were at home should make noise with pans and cooking spoons, it was amazing how many people joined this appeal. i was truly overwhelmed about this solidarity…
i was staying with two turkish friends of mine and was glad about that because it was very authentic and of course we also made some noise and tured on and off the light!

here’s a video i took on sunday evening (i know, i’m not the best cameraperson ;) but i think you get the message)

this video also may be interesting!
